As an RV owner, you know that keeping your home on wheels clean and tidy can be a never-ending battle. But fear not! We’ve rounded up some RV cleaning hacks that will save you time and effort, leaving your RV sparkling clean and smelling fresh.
Assess Your Cleaning Supplies
Before embarking on your RV cleaning journey, it’s important to take inventory of your cleaning supplies. Toss out any expired or unused products and make sure you have all the essentials on hand, like all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, and vinegar. Some all-purpose cleaners say they are good to use on glass, so be sure to check yours before purchasing another cleaning product. Consider using eco-friendly or natural cleaning products to keep your RV and the environment clean.
Use the Power of Vinegar
Vinegar is a versatile and affordable cleaning solution that is perfect for use in your RV. Use it to clean windows and mirrors. It can descale your coffee maker, shower head, and faucets. It can deodorize your stinky laundry when used in the rinse cycle. It works to get rid of mold and mildew, too! Mix equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle and use it to wipe down countertops and clean up spills. Not a fan of the smell of vinegar? Add a few drops of essential oil to the mix for a refreshing scent. But the vinegar smell does dissipate within a short time.
Keep a Lint Roller Handy
Lint rollers aren’t just for getting pet hair off your clothes. Keep one in your RV and use it to quickly and easily clean up crumbs, dust, and other debris from your upholstery, curtains, and carpets. It’s a quick and easy solution for keeping your RV looking tidy in between deep cleanings. It also can fit into smaller spaces that your vacuum cleaner can't.
Use Dryer Sheets for Multi-Purpose Cleaning
Dryer sheets are not just for laundry. They are great for dusting, removing water spots on chrome, and even removing bugs from the front of your RV. Keep a few sheets in your cleaning kit for multi-purpose cleaning. Many people claim they also repel mice, but I have not found that to be true.
Make Cleaning Easier with a Cordless Vacuum
A cordless vacuum is a game changer when it comes to cleaning your RV. They are lightweight, easy to maneuver, and perfect for getting into tight spaces. Plus, they’re cordless, so you don’t have to worry about finding an outlet or tripping over a cord while you’re cleaning.
FAQ
Q: Can I use bleach to clean my RV?
A: It is not recommended to use bleach on RV surfaces as it can cause damage to the material. Bleach can also ruin the seals, in your RV's toilet, for example. However, it is recommended to use a small amount of bleach to sanitize your fresh water holding tank. I've seen it recommended to use 1/4 cup bleach per 16 gallons of tank capacity, but I would suggest consulting your user manual. You do NOT want to run the bleach through your hot water tank, so do your research first if you have never sanitized your fresh water system. Stick to all-purpose cleaners or specialized RV cleaners.
Q: How often should I clean my RV?
A: It’s a good idea to do a deep cleaning of your RV at least once a month, with regular touch-ups in between. A quick daily clean of your kitchen countertops, toilet, and bathroom vanity helps keep your RV looking good and doesn't take long to do. Depending on where you live/park, you may want to do a quick vacuum of the high-traffic areas every day to prevent tracking.
